Problem: Discolored Slate
A once-gorgeous slate patio and outdoor living space at a Phoenix, AZ home had lost its appeal due to years of exposure to sunlight and the elements. Severe discoloration from calcium water deposits (also known as limescale) and rust stains added to the unsightly appearance of the slate.
Solution: Slate Deep Cleaning and Sealing
First, we hand scrubbed the slate tiles and grout joints using an acid mixture to remove ground in dirt, embedded debris, and as much of the calcium and rust as possible. We thoroughly rinsed the slate and then used our own company developed and manufactured concentrated Natural Stone & Tile Cleaner to give the entire area a second round of deep cleaning and restore the pH balance of the stone.
After allowing the patio plenty of dry time, we sealed the slate with Dry Treat STAIN-PROOF Original™. This treatment, which comes with a fifteen year warranty, will provide exceptional protection for this slate against the harsh Arizona elements and makes it easier to clean so that this patio can look great all the time.
About Dry Treat
Most sealers and enhancers used on exterior surfaces in Arizona will break down and fade within a couple of years. The reason we prefer using Dry Treat sealers on exterior surfaces is that it can be expected to last much longer before another application is needed (although it is still recommended to be professionally deep cleaned every one to two years). There are some Dry Treat sealers that come with five, fifteen, or twenty-five year written warranties against the absorption of water and oil, but only if the sealer is applied by a Dry Treat accredited applicator and a regular cleaning schedule is maintained. Beyond Stone Solutions is a Dry Treat accredited applicator, and we will be happy to provide proof of treatment for your records, as well as answer any questions you may have about Dry Treat sealers and products.
